The short version: Munshi is a bookkeeping tool. You keep your records, you own them, and you're responsible for what you enter and for any messages you choose to send. Munshi doesn't move money, give financial advice, or send anything to your customers by itself. We work hard to keep your data safe and in sync, but we can't promise it will never be lost — keep your own exports.
By creating an account or using Munshi you agree to these Terms of Use and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the app. "We", "us" and "DIGIT" mean the publisher of Munshi; "you" means the person (or the business you act for) using it.
01 What Munshi is (and isn't)
Munshi is a digital khata: a place to record customer and supplier accounts, a cash book, bank-book entries, and expenses for your own business, with optional photos and voice notes, PDF exports, reminders, and backups.
- Munshi is a record-keeping tool only. It does not hold money, process payments, connect to real bank accounts, lend, or move funds. A "bank account" in Munshi is a record you type in.
- Munshi is not accounting, tax, legal, or financial advice. Figures such as "receivable" and "payable" are simple totals of the entries you made.
- Munshi does not verify any customer's identity, creditworthiness, or whether a debt is owed. Whether to extend credit, collect, or settle is your decision.
02 Your account
- You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live (18 in most places). If you use Munshi for a business, you confirm you're allowed to act for it.
- You sign in with your phone number and a one-time code. Give us accurate information and keep access to your phone number and codes to yourself.
- You're responsible for activity under your account. If you turn on App Lock, keep your PIN private; we can't recover it for you (the "Forgot PIN" option signs you out so you can sign back in).
- Tell us promptly if you think someone else has accessed your account.
03 Your data
- It's yours. The ledger entries, notes, photos, voice notes and other content you enter belong to you. We don't sell them and we don't use them for advertising.
- You give us permission to store, process, back up, and display that content as needed to run Munshi for you (for example, syncing it between your devices and exporting your PDF).
- Your khata contains personal information about other people — customers, suppliers, staff. You're responsible for having a legitimate reason to record it, for keeping it accurate, and for following the privacy and consumer laws that apply to your business.
- Don't enter information you have no right to store, or sensitive data you don't need (for example ID-card numbers or card details).
How we handle personal data is explained in the Privacy Policy.
04 Acceptable use
Please don't:
- use Munshi for anything unlawful, fraudulent, or deceptive — including keeping false records to mislead customers, lenders, or tax authorities;
- try to access another person's account or data, or probe, disrupt, or overload the service or its security;
- reverse-engineer, scrape, or copy the app, or use it to build a competing product;
- upload malware or content that infringes someone else's rights;
- use automated means to create accounts or send requests.
We may suspend or limit access if these rules are broken or to protect other users or the service.
05 Reminders & WhatsApp
- When you tap "Send reminder", Munshi opens WhatsApp on your own phone with a pre-written message. You review it and press Send. Munshi never sends a message to your customers by itself.
- You're responsible for the messages you send: contact only people you have a genuine business relationship with, keep the tone respectful, and follow WhatsApp's terms and the laws on harassment and unsolicited messages.
- Munshi can't tell whether you pressed Send, or whether a message was delivered or read. A reminder is not a legal demand or notice.
06 Backups, sync & accuracy
- Munshi is built to work offline and sync when you're back online. Changes made offline appear as pending until they reach our servers; if you uninstall the app or lose the device before they sync, they can be lost.
- Balances are calculated from your entries. Check important figures before relying on them, especially after editing or deleting entries. Deleted ledger entries stay in the Recycle Bin for 14 days.
- We run automated checks and keep a local backup file and an optional Google Drive copy, but we don't guarantee that your data will never be lost, corrupted, or unavailable. Export your ledgers to PDF regularly and keep your own copies of anything you can't afford to lose.
- We may change, pause, or retire features, and the service may be unavailable from time to time (for maintenance, outages, or reasons outside our control).
07 Third-party services
Munshi relies on services we don't control — Google (Firebase, Google Drive), Apple (the App Store), Google AdMob (the ads in the free app), WhatsApp, and your phone's operating system. Their own terms apply when you use them, and we aren't responsible for their availability or actions.
08 Cost & ads
Munshi is free. It shows ads from Google AdMob, which pay for the servers and for building, updating and supporting the app, so features that other khata apps charge for, like offline use, more than one phone and Google Drive backup, stay free for everyone.
- Ads are marked "Ad". They don't appear while you add or edit an entry, sign in, unlock the app or send a reminder.
- A PDF of this month or last month is free to export. Exports covering longer dates, and Excel files, open after a short video ad that you choose to watch. If no ad can be loaded, the export goes ahead anyway.
- Your records are never shared with advertisers. What the ads collect, and your choices, are explained in our Privacy Policy.
- If we ever introduce paid features, we'll tell you in the app before you're charged anything, and your records will always remain yours to export.
09 Ending your use
- You can stop using Munshi at any time. To delete your account, go to Settings → Danger zone → Delete account. Your account is disabled straight away and your data is permanently deleted after 30 days; sign in again with your phone number within that window and your account is restored (see the Privacy Policy).
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or the law. Where reasonable we'll give you notice and a chance to export your records first.
- Sections that by their nature should continue (ownership, disclaimers, liability, governing law) survive after your account ends.
10 Ownership
Munshi, its name, logo, design, and software belong to DIGIT or its licensors. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app for your own business while these terms are in force. Your content stays yours (see Your data). If you send us feedback, we may use it to improve Munshi without owing you anything.
11 Disclaimers & liability
- Munshi is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we don't make promises that it will be error-free, uninterrupted, or fit for a particular purpose.
- To the fullest extent the law allows, DIGIT isn't liable for indirect or consequential losses — such as lost profit, lost business, uncollected debts, or loss of data — arising from your use of Munshi, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for Munshi in the 12 months before the claim (which is currently nothing).
- Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that can't be excluded by law, including for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
- You agree to cover reasonable losses we suffer because you broke these terms or the law — for example, unlawful content or messages you sent.
12 Apple App Store users
If you got Munshi from Apple's App Store: these terms are between you and DIGIT, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app, and isn't responsible for claims about it — including product liability, legal-compliance, or intellectual-property claims. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm you're not in a country under a US government embargo and aren't on a US list of prohibited parties. Apple's Media Services Terms also apply.
13 Changes
We may update these terms as Munshi changes. We'll update the effective date above and, for material changes, tell you in the app. Using Munshi after an update means you accept the revised terms; if you don't, stop using the app and delete your account.
14 Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Pakistan, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, and any dispute will be decided by the competent courts of Pakistan — except that nothing here limits consumer-protection rights you have under the law where you live.
